Belete was born in Ethiopia. Long after the military took power declared Communism, his family left Ethiopia and moved to Washington DC about 15 years ago. He came to Santa Barbara and attended SBCC. He studied political science and construction technology focusing on green building. Belete transferred to Antioch University Santa Barbara to finish his Bachelor's degree.
