Have you ever had the feeling that you have a million of things to do but don’t know where to start? That you’ve spent hours on an assignment but still haven’t finished it? That you are totally stressed out because you don’t know how to get your life together?

Yes, autumn is calling and so is school. This means getting back into some serious routines , but it also means meeting new people, learning about other cultures and building new connections. The life as a student at Antioch University can be a challenging time as you are developing and growing as a person. It is a time where you put a lot of effort to get another step closer to your dream job and the goal you’re aiming for in life.

You suddenly have a lot of responsibility, putting yourself out there, to maybe be judged, but also can leave you questioning yourself and your beliefs.

This can be a very stressful time and many forget about their inner health and mental wellness.
– But what is mental health really?

According to World Health Organization’s (WHO’s), mental health is “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community”.

Here are some great tips that can make your life a whole lot easier along your journey to wellbeing and success:

1. Organization – Take a moment every week and plan what you have the upcoming week. Make a to-do-list and have all your school things in one place.

2. Preparation – The earlier you start, the earlier you are done. Use both your time wisely and your calendar effective so you can stay on top of things. Remember it is all about time management.

3. Don’t be to hard on yourself – Have reasonable goals. You can’t be the best looking, the best friend, the best partner, be the best child or best parent and get straight A’s all at once, sometimes you have to let go of that perfectionist inside of you.

4. Eat right – It’s important to get your daily portion of vitamins and proteins so you feel energized. Read more about it in Nutrition: Brain Gain for Students

5. Exercise – It’s important to take breaks from studying. Exercising gives you a lot of energy, positive thinking and you feel a whole lot stronger afterwards.

6. Be effective while doing homework – Try to find a place where you can concentrate easily, here are some studying spots in Santa Barbara.

7. Don’t be afraid to ask in class – Prevent any question marks and ask as much as possible in class so you have a clear mind what to do next.

8. Surround yourself with positive people – When you have a lot of challenging work, the last thing you want is someone negative that makes you feel even worse. Get rid of those energy thieves!

9. Update your technical knowledge – It’s a lot to take in the first couple of days at school, but when the teacher’s knocks you don’t with piles of homework, you don’t have time for understanding a forum or a new program. Be prepared and it will be a whole lot easier.

10. Use the schools help centers – We are all here to educate and to learn, which means that it will be questions. Help centres are here for you, and your questions so why not take advantage of their help?
