It comes as no surprise that the Electronic Dance Music industry is alive and well in today’s arts scene, but what is truly amazing are the artists that bring a world-class act to our small hometown of Santa Barbara. Over the past fifteen years, the electronic music industry has boomed with events such as Ultra Miami and Electric Daisy Carnival boasting some of the best headliners of our time. While some music lovers enjoy attending large music festivals, we are blessed because many of these amazing artists and DJ’s perform at intimate venues throughout our city. This past month, two amazing artists – Mija and Seven Lions — took their place on stage and dazzled their crowd.

Mija (Amber Giles) was born in Phoenix, Arizona and made her break DJing at the age of nineteen. Since her break in 2014, she was influenced by French house and nu-house duo Eric Daley. Since then, she has continued to tour and deliver some of the most incredible performances to her beloved fans. At the end of September, Mija visited EOS Lounge of Santa Barbara and delivered a two and a half-hour-long set infusing the eclectic sounds of deep house married with the sexy French house nu-disco beats. Her performance was unprecedented and boasted her abilities as a deep house artist with no limitations to her diverse palate.
At the beginning of October, locally born Santa Barbarian Seven Lions (Jeff Montalvo) displayed an epic performance of his ‘The Journey II’ tour on October 2nd at EOS and continued to boost his talent as a bass house DJ infusing electric bursts of off-syncopated deep dub. Having been inspired by artists like Tiesto and his trance albums from the mid-2000’s, Seven Lions broke into the EDM scene with Anjunabeats in 2011 with a remix of the legendary Above & Beyond. Since then, he has climbed to the top and has headlined EDM events globally. His performance at the beginning of October showed Santa Barbara that his music not only commands greatness but also is centrist on his humble beginnings locally. Dynamic, inspiring, and powerful, Seven Lions demonstrates the true showmanship and craft of being a DJ and producer.

Both these artists are young in the EDM community yet they boast some of the most revolutionary sounds of this decade. Their passion and devotion to the art of electronic music production have shot their careers to the top and the only way for them to go is up. As a fellow DJ and music enthusiast, I highly encourage you (the reader) to visit an upcoming show and support some truly amazing and talented individuals. These artists may be young, but they boast an amazing spectacle of art and sound.
