5 Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas That Are Not Cheesy

Guys, get the idea of expensive roses, fancy wine and heart shaped chocolates out of your head and be original this year. Making a strong impression on today’s women is not as hard as one might think. All it takes is something simple that touches the heart. Here are some tips and tricks that are going to prove to your significant other that you are mature and thoughtful.

  1. Donate to a cause in her name
As Antioch students, we are committed to promoting social justice and common good, simultaneously placing an emphasis on bettering the world. One way to do that is through donating to a good cause. Donating is not only going to make you seem more socially conscious and community oriented, but also sweep her off her feet without coming off as unsophisticated.
  2. Buy a gift card to her favorite coffee place
Odds are, you are dating a girl who loves coffee and needs it at least once a day. In that case, why not be the perfect boyfriend and give her a gift card to her most preferred coffee shop? In the modern dating world, coffee and romance often go hand in hand. According to a recent poll conducted by Dunkin’ Donuts, “50% of respondents said that they would prefer to receive a fresh cup of coffee from their sweetheart on Valentine’s Day rather than flowers.”
  3. Book tickets for a future trip
Be within budget and plan an overseas trip for the low season. The off-peak-season flight fares and hotel rates drop significantly if you avoid the holiday season. But before doing so, make sure you are committed to this girl and can envision a future with her, because cancelling tickets can have tendency to backfire on your wallet.
  4. Cook her a romantic dinner
“Dine in” is the magic word. Cook her favorite meal from scratch and surprise her at your apartment. Take advantage of the personal space to have an intimate conversation. Many college aged women feel like going out for dinner on Valentine’s Day, surrounded by formally dressed couples might be uncomfortable because of the pressure and expectations put on this holiday. Being in a relaxed environment can get your date to open up and be more authentic.
  5. Write her a personal note
Avoid falling into the trap of the merchandisers trying to sell the cliché teddy bear saying “I love you” with the push of a button. Instead create a personalized card with a picture collage of memories you two have shared together. Also write about your sincere passion towards her and the qualities about her that you admire, and wrap it with a red ribbon or put it in a classic black and white box.
